Tragedy has occurred as renowned Professor of Mass Communication Lai Oso, died in an accident on Saturday.
Oso, of the Department of Mass Communication Lagos State University reportedly died on his way from Abraka, Delta state.
Details of the death were not available at press time. NPO Reports however gathered that the information is just filtering in among his colleagues in the institution.
A colleague, Prof. Jimi Kayode, who was contacted by the NPO Reports said he had just been informed but did not have details.
He said he had confirmed from the Dean of the Faculty Prof Yinka Alawode, who told him it was true.
A call to Alawode’s phone line rang out and there was not response.
The news of his death has sent shock waves to the academic communities, present and former students, media organisations and civil society groups where he was a known figure for his contributions.
Oso was known for his erudite presentations at public events especially on media reforms, innovations and scholarship.
It was not clear at press time his mission in Delta state before the accident occurred.
Expressing sadness, Kayode said he saw Oso last on Monday on the campus of LASU where he said they had some conversations but was unaware he was to travel to Delta state.
