An Ibeju-Lekki resident has raised alarm over the destruction of properties by the Atlantic ocean surge along Lagos coastline.
As captured in a video shared on TikTok, the base of several houses along the coastline have been washed away revealing their foundation.
At least 15 houses, according to the resident of Ikirun community, has collapsed on account of the surge with more houses on the verge of collapsing.
Recounting the community’s ordeal in Yoruba, the resident, whose identity was not disclosed, held that several houses have been submerged by the ocean which rapidly advanced towards to community.
He called on the government to come their aid, noting that several residents have evacuated from the community on account of the surge.
“Please help us. About 15 houses have collapsed now. Please come to our aid at Aba Ikirun. There is no distance between our community and the ocean again.
“Several are houses have been destroyed not to count of those already submerged by the ocean. Some are on the verge of collapsing now.” The resident said.
Meanwhile, the cause of the ocean surge was traced to the dredging activities Dangote refinery dredging with almost eight communities reportedly affected.
