A group of retired police officers on Monday stormed Aso Rock Villa, the official residence of the Nigerian president in protest over delayed approval of bill removing the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The group, under the aegis of Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria (PROF), converged at the Presidential Villa, blocking one of the main gates of the villa.
They demanded President Bola Tinubu immediate assent to the bill titled Police Exit Bill.
According to reports, the bill was passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and later transmitted to the Presidency on March 16, 2026.
However, the President’s delay in signing the bill into law had fueled anger among retired officers which prompted the protest witnessed earlier today.
Videos shared on X showed the protesters chanting solidarity songs with placards containing inscriptions such as “Police dey work, PenCom dey chop” and “Tinubu, sign our bill now.”
Some of the older protesters sat at the entrance of the Presidential Villas as others charged towards the gate heavily guarded by police officers and other security operatives.
The protesters demanded that the President personally address them as they rejected pleas by the security operatives.
