Rwanda’s incumbent president has officially been sworn-in to a lengthy five years tenure following victory at last month’s Presidential election.
Kagame had won the July election on a landslide with 99.8% of vote to defeat Frank Habineza from the Democratic Green Party and independent Philippe Mpayimana.
On account of the change in Rwanda’s constitution in 2015, Kagame will be spend five years in his new tenure.
Though the election was reportedly marred by a crackdown on media, the opposition and civil society groups as alleged by the opposition groups, Kagame’s emergence as the President was, however, welcome as thousands of Rwandans attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Also in attendance were 22 Heads of States from different African countries.
