The Department of State Security DSS, has been asked to join the special probe of the death of singer Oladimeji Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly called Mohbad.
The government of Lagos state, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information Gbenga Omotoso, said the DSS would be instrumental to bringing all technologies that are capable of unraveling the mystery behind the death of the singer and getting all those directly and indirectly connected with actions that led to his death.
The statement by the government is coming exactly a week after the controversial death of the singer.
Mohbad died on Tuesday and was buried on Wednesday in Ikorodu.
There have been allegations that Mohbad’s alleged tormentors have networks in high places and that they are untouchable.
Some of those fingered to have orchestrated a number of attacks on him include singer, Azeez Fashola popularly called Naira Marley, and one of his associates, Sam Larry.
Some have alleged that Sam Larry is connected with the ruling party in Lagos.
Mohbad was previous signed to the Marlian Records headed by Naira Marley. Things were said to have gone awry after the singer decided to quit Marlian Records.
In a number of his songs, the singer had indicated the frustrations and series of attacks he was experiencing from persons and groups allegedly linked to the record label.
However, in what appears like a direct distancing from Sam Larry, the statement from the government was clear in stating that whoever was found to have caused attacks on Mohbad should be arrested and prosecuted.
Earlier at the weekend, the Palace of Oba Saheed Elegushi, had issued a statement disowning Sam Larry and saying he does not work for the royal house of the palace.
“Mr. Sanwo-Olu has directed that all those who may have played any role whatsoever in any event that may have led to the death of Mohbad be made to face the law after a thorough investigation,” the government statement said
“Consequently, the Department of State Services (DSS) has also joined the investigation as to get justice for the younster, his family and teeming fans,” the statement added.
Apart from the statement by the government, Sanwo-Olu, through his personal X handle also called on all to refrain from any actions that are capable of jeopardising the investigation.
“I would like to assure everyone that I am not oblivious to the sad passing of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Imole Aloba (Mohbad). We have been closely working behind the scenes with relevant authorities, and keenly following the ongoing investigations,” the governor said on Tuesday.
The Governor pleaded with all those who may have vital information that may assist the investigation process to avail the investigating team with such.
He said further, “I have also appealed to the investigating team to guarantee the confidentiality and protection of all witnesses who may come forward with vital information or indicative evidence that may assist the process.
“The Police and the DSS have promised to brief the public on their efforts periodically. I also appeal to all friends and fans of the deceased to stay calm and refrain from making inflammary utterances and reaching prejudicial conclusions on this matter.
“Staying calm and following the process will be our most solemn tribute to the memory of the departed talent. I hereby commiserate with the family, friends, colleagues, and fans all over the world on Imole’s sad demise. I wish everyone love and light, and may his soul rest in peace. Amen.”
