The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, inspected the ongoing construction around the state Red Line Rail project, assuring that the government is committed to completing the project.
Sanwo-Olu inspecting the ongoing Red Line Rail stations and vehicular bridge overpass at Yaba and Ebute Meta axis of the state stated that the construction is being undertaken by Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
After inspecting the project, Sanwo-Olu stated that the Ebute Metta vehicular bridge overpass was between seventy five to eighty per cent completed, while that of Yaba was ninety five percent completed as the government was collaborating with the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
He also said that the two train stations were at advanced stages of completion, expressing satisfaction with the progress and level of works, which is from Ebute- Meta to Agbado.
Sanwo-Olu said that the early resumption of work immediately after the 2023 elections, was to fulfill the “more work” promise during the campaign to deliver the “Lagos Project”
While on the tour, the governor said he appealed to people trading on the rail tracks to vacate as his administration had declared zero tolerance to such activities.
He further expressed his delight with the level of work carried out by contractors and assured of being on time to concluding the project by the end of the year.
“I am indeed impressed with the level of work by all contractors working on the Red Line project. I believe we are on track to finish the project by the end of this year. We will push the contractors to work tirelessly to see that they finish on time.
“We will be strict on enforcement in taking out intruders from the rail corridor. We have given evacuation notice to all traders found on that axis. We will wall off the entire corridor to make it free for passengers movement when the operation starts.
“We are aware that people cannot wait for its completion and the day they will start using it. But we cannot take safety measures for granted.
Everything must be put in place before we can launch it.” He said.
