The Nigerian Football Team, Super Eagles, has announced plans to boycott the 2025 AFCON Qualifier match with Libya following the inhuman treatment meted out on them on arrival.
Recall that NPO reported earlier that the players were locked up at an abandoned airport on arrival to Libya for over 13 hours.
The team’s captain, Williams Troost-Ekong, in his post on X expressed his displeasure, while stating that the team will not play the game.
“As the captain together with the team we have decided that we will NOT play this game. CAF should look at the report and what is happening here.”
He however added that the Libyan team can have the points, noting that they will not accept to trvael by road even with security.
“Even if they decide to allow this kind of behaviour, let them have the points. We will not accept to travel anywhere by road here even with security it’s not safe.
“We can only imagine what the hotel or food would be like given to us IF we continued.”
Reacting to this, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has disclosed that it is making plans to fly the team back home.
“Players have resolved not to play the match any longer, and NFF officials are making plans to fly the team back home.”
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is yet to release an official statement on the situation.
