A student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has been shot dead at the university’s main gate.
Eyewitnesses stated that documents found inside the vehicle showed he was a part-time final-year student of UNIBEN.
According to reports, the student, simply identified as Junior, was attacked by heavily armed masked gunmen driving in a Mercedes Benz car without plate number.
From the video circulated on Sunday, on X, the victim was shot multiple times until his face was completely disfigured.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as something out of an action movie, Junior was driving with a girl seated in the front and another boy seated at the back.
In an attempt to escape by reversing his car, he hit another vehicle behind him, leaving him trapped between the cars causing an obstruction.
Some people at the scene reported that the attackers focused their gunfire mainly on the driver’s side of the vehicle. While this was going on, the other passengers were also shot.
Witnesses further claimed that the attackers continued shooting even after exhausting their first round of bullets. They reloaded their weapons and continued shooting.
Unfortunately, Junior lost his life at the scene while the other victims were rushed to the hospital.
As at the time of the incident, the identity and motive of the attackers remain unknown.
