The University of Benin (UNIBEN) community was on Sunday thrown into panic after a student was shot dead at the campus gate.
The yet-to-be identified victim claimed to be a part-time student was shot dead in his car by unknown assailants the Ugbowo campus main gate.
He was reportedly attacked and murdered shortly after completing his semester examinations.
A video recorded after the attack and shared on X showed the vehicle with bullet holes on the windscreen.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspected gunmen intercepted a Mercedes-Benz GLK vehicle near the university entrance before opening fire sporadically at close range.
The assailants reportedly drove away immediately after the attack.
Another clip of the disturbing incident showed the body of the student behind the wheel with his face blown off by gun shots.
Meanwhile, no official statement has been issued by the school management to confirm the identity of the student and the circumstances surrounding his murder.
The development has raised renewed concerns over security around the busy Ugbowo axis, a major hub frequently populated by students, traders, and commuters.
