The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed to reporters at the estate that a Peugeot 406 driver with registration no. YLA 681 FS drowned in the flood and was still missing at Imo Street of the Estate. Four other persons according to NEMA were rescued and are recovering from the shock of the incident.
Many of the residents were sighted during the downpour trying to save their property after their houses had been submerged by the flood. Trademore Estate has over the years suffered from a series of devastating effects of flooding with lives and property worth billions of naira lost.
As at the time of filing this report, stakeholders responding to the flood are NEMA, Fire Service, FCT FEMA, Red Cross and Federal Ministry of Environment-Flood department respectively. Many affected residents blamed the tragedy on people whp refused to obey building regulations and environmental laws thereby building along the channels. NPO Reports learnt that the Federal Capital Development Authority had in the past demolished some structures seen to be standing in the way of the channels.
