No fewer than three persons have been confirmed dead with six others injured in a fatal multiple crash involving six vehicles on Friday at the toll-gate area of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by Salau Hammed, Ota Divisional Commander of the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).
The accident which involved 15 persons and six vehicles reportedly occurred at about 2.15 p.m.
According to Hammed, an eyewitness reported that a Howo truck travelling inbound on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway lost control due to brake failure and rammed into other vehicles.
“The truck killed three people, comprising a man, a woman and a female toddler, while six others, three males and three females, sustained injuries,” TRACE boss said.
He added that the victims were attempting to board a bus when the tragic incident occurred.
“The corpses have been deposited at Ifo General Hospital, while survivors are receiving treatment at Ota General Hospital,” he said.
Hammed advised motorists to avoid speeding and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before driving on highways.
He added that the vehicles involved had been towed off the road to restore the free flow of traffic.
According to reports, similar incident occurred on February 17 with a truck also suffered brake failure at the same toll-gate area, killing six persons and injuring three others.
