The convoy of the wife of Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun, Kafayat Oyetola, was on Friday attacked in Ede with some of the security aides attached to her being injured.
The injured security aides are said to be receiving medical attention currently.
Trouble had reportedly started when a truck allegedly broke down at the Owode Market, near Ede causing a gridlock. The gridlock was said to have been compounded by the many traders at the roadside making it difficult for the convoy to pass.
The logjam, according to eyewitnesses prompted the security men in the convoy to come down to clear the road for the First Lady of the state to pass.
As the security men came down, some thugs were said to have emerged from nowhere challenging them why they should harass those on the road for the Governor’s wife.
In the argument that ensued, some of the thugs were said to have started throwing stones and other dangerous objects at the First Lady’s vehicle and others in the convoy.
While of those in the convoy were injured, some of the vehicles were vandalised with windshields broken.
The situation had degenerated that many traders had to flee to avoid gunshots.
The market is in Ede, the hometown of the new Governor-elect, Ademola Adeleke.
Recall that her husband’s convoy was attacked during the protests against police brutality with many vehicles badly damaged at the time.
