President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Benue State for his one-day condolence visit to victims of last week’s attack by suspected armed herdsmen.
NPO Reported that the President had on Monday shelved his planned visit to Kaduna State in order to travel to Benue on account of the weekend’s horrific attack on residents of Yelewata town by the assailants who killed over 200 people.
Tinubu arrived at the Makurdi airport on Wednesday with the state governor, Alia Hyacinth and other officials receiving him.
Prior to his arrival, the President had dispatched the secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume, the inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, heads of intelligence agencies, the national security adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the chairmen of the Senate and House of Reps defence committees to the state.
Also in anticipation of Tinubu’s arrival, Hyacinth declared Wednesday work-free day in the state.
The President will commence his condolence visit to the affected communities after which he will hold a town hall meeting with the stakeholders of the state.
Recall that the tragic incident in what has been described as a massacre had attracted condemnations both at national and international levels.
Benue had in the past five months experienced multiple attacks allegedly orchestrated by Fulani herdsmen.
