President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the winners of Saturday’s elections conducted in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as well as in Kano and Rivers states, describing the polls as peaceful and successful.
This was contained in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Sunday.
The elections, organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), held across the six area councils of the FCT.
By-elections also took place in the Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State, and in the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.
The President urged the elected officials to discharge their duties with humility, patriotism and dedication, stressing that the mandate entrusted to them by the electorate should be treated as a sacred responsibility.
President Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as notable achievements in the territory, adding that these efforts have translated into political gains for the ruling party.
He congratulated the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as the party’s leadership and members in Kano and Rivers states, on their victories at the polls.
The President further praised INEC, security agencies and voters for their roles in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the elections. He also acknowledged the discipline and courage displayed by all contestants, noting that active participation and competition are vital to the growth of democracy.
President Tinubu said the successful elections have further strengthened Nigeria’s democratic culture and institutions, and he called on INEC to sustain and improve its efforts towards delivering even more credible and exemplary electoral processes in future elections.
