Angry workers of the Ministry of Works on Thursday locked their Minister, Engr Dave Umahi, in his office as their response to his order that those who came late to work should be locked out.
There was tension in the Ministry complex located in the Mabushi area of the Federal Capital Territory as the workers said the Minister as well would not come out of his office accusing him of highhandedness since he assumed office.
NPO Reported earlier that the Minister had ordered that all the gates leading into the complex be locked while over 100 workers were outside having arrived after 8am which was the deadline set by the Minister.
The union members comprising the Housing and Works Ministry decided to lock up the ministry.
The workers also blocked entry and exit into the building thereby preventing the minister from leaving the office premises.
They also claimed that Umahi “stopped engineers and directors from doing their work, and has been breaking public service rules since his appointment, by bringing in consultants to run the affairs of the ministry”
A union official, Williams Kudi, said that the minister has refused to grant them an audience to express their feeling.
