OUR EARLIER STORY:
Governors of the South-West geo-political zone of Nigeria are meeting at the office of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu today in Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu had started receiving the governors with the arrival of his Oyo state counterpart, Seyi Makinde.
Other governors who had arrived for the meeting are Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Demola Adeleke of Osun, Lucky Ayedatiwa of Ondo and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti.
The agenda of the meeting was not disclosed before its commencement but it was gathered that it might not be connected with a possible joint review of the minimum wage issue in the country.
A reliable source told NPO Reports that the governors have been thinking of taking a joint position as the minimum wage affects them in the region.
The organised labour asked workers to down tools last week over minimum wage dispute with the Federal Government. The action of the labour had crippled the country.
While the Federal Government had offered N62,000 as the new minimum wage, workers are insisting on N250,000.
An official of the NLC, Chris Onyeka, was on Channels Television Monday morning to voice the insistence of the labour on N250,000.
He said failure to agree on that, workers would again be asked to vacate offices anytime from Tuesday.
The umbrella body of the governors Nigerian Governors Forum, had said N62,000 is not sustainable. S
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, had also condemned the proposal by the labour saying he cannot afford to pay his four drivers N100,000 each every month.
Akume has earned condemnation over his comment where he also accused labour leaders of being saboteurs.
