A United States-based Nigerian doctor, Peter Ozuah, has alongside other alumni donated $1 million for the construction of a new hostel at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (UCH).
The Chief Executive Officer of New York-based hospital, Montefiore Einstein, and members of the UCH Alumni Class of 1985 built the hostel which was handed over to the management of the institution.
Speaking during inauguration of the project, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa expressed her gratitude to the alumni.
She however urged other alumni and Nigerians to emulate the Ozuah-led alumni to do more.
Dabiri-Erewa further challenged the alumni to consider building a medical centre in the country.
“Emulate what Dr. Ozuah had done. Emulate what the alumni. Imagine every alumni or everybody goes back and give something back, Nigeria will be a better place.
“No matter how far you go, you are are coming back home.
“I also want to throw a challenge, you can build. Medical centre. We are the best in the world. 70 percent of black doctors in the US are all Nigerians.
“So, I’m challenging you. The Deputy Governor has said it, you will get all the support you need.” She said.
