United States President Joe Biden, on Sunday patted Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu on his back for what he called his resolve to reform the Nigerian economy.
Tinubu also earned Biden’s commendation on what he called his leadership role in the Niger crisis and other crisis in the continent of Africa.
Biden made his feelings known to Tinubu on the sidelines of the G-20 summit holding in India.
In a statement released by the United States Embassy in Nigeria on Sunday, the consular office said President Biden met with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu today on the sidelines of the G20 in New Delhi, India to reinforce what it called “our enduring commitment to the U.S.-Nigeria relationship and to the longstanding friendship between our two countries and peoples.”
The statement quoted Biden as welcoming the Tinubu Administration’s steps to reform Nigeria’s economy and thanking him also “for his strong leadership as the chair of the Economic Community of West African States.”
It added that the efforts also include the defence and preservation of democracy and the rule of law in Niger and the broader region.
“Nigeria’s invitation to the G20 Summit is a recognition of Nigeria’s important global role as Africa’s largest democracy and economy,” the statement added
Since arriving in India, the Nigerian president has had series of meetings with investors with promises for huge interventions in the Nigerian economy.
