Lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, alongside social media activist, Vincent Martins Otse, fondly known as Very Dark Man, on Friday led the protest with Abuja residents, demanding a halt to the mass demolition by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In a video posted by Deji Adeyanju, via his X platform, he was addressing newsmen with residents of Ruga area of Abuja holding placards.
Wike had previously ordered a task force, “Operation Sweep,” to demolish Ruga and other communities within the nation’s capital to clear the city of perceived nuisances and criminal activities.
Meanwhile, VDM and Adeyanju, have condemned this act, describing it as a “malicious intent”.
“The reason we are here is as a result of the ongoing mass demolition by the Honorable Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
“There are four different demolitions going on and more than 50,000 residents of the FCT in this location alone.
“You can see here children whose parents have directly been affected” he said.
“There is no justification for this demolition. We are using this medium to appeal to the president to consider the plight of the displaced residents, who are barely surviving.”
Adeyanju highlighted that most residents were forced out of their homes in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe due to insecurity.
“Most of them are artisans trying to make a living. These demolitions are excessive, and Mr. President needs to act to prevent further harassment of the people.”
He urged Tinubu to intervene, stating, “Tinubu should call Wike to order and stop him from demolishing people’s homes and reallocating the land to rich people.”
Vincent Martins Otse on his own part stated that the repercussions of the process will have its toll on Abuja
“These people have been rendered homeless amid the ongoing hardship in the country.”
“It is sad that they think the poor are not part of society.”
