Super Eagles forward and newly crowned CAF Player of the Year, Ademola Lookman, left Nigerians in awe on Monday after starting his remark in Yoruba language.
The London-born footballer stirred Nigerians in his speech at Marrakech, Morocco, as he appreciated them for their support.
“E kaale Nigeria. Mo n kin gbogbo yin. E sé modupe” Lookman said following his announcement as the player of the year.
Lookman was highly tipped to win the biggest award in African football following his stellar performance at the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
He would seal the spot for the 2024 Africa’s player of the year with an historic display at the Europa League final where he helped Atalanta win its first trophy in over four decades with an hat trick.
Meanwhile, Lookman would not be the first Nigerian of Yoruba descent to trace back his root on such grand stage.
He followed the footstep of UFC fighter, Israel Adesanya, who often showcase his Yoruba heritage during his performance.
