Former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed his grievances over the demise of ex-minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni (Rtd), describing his death as a monumental loss.
Atiku in his condolence message shared on X on Friday lauded the late Useni who is fondly called “Merry Jerryman” for his affable and jovial character.
According to the 2023 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, the ex-FCT Minister was a kindhearted patriot who worked tirelessly for peace and nation-building both during his military days and his political career.
Atiku held that Useni’s legacies cannot be forgotten as he extended his condolences to the family and the military.
The statement read in part; “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, a distinguished soldier, accomplished public administrator, and devoted peacemaker.
“His demise is a monumental loss to our nation, as he was a repository of institutional knowledge and wisdom.
“General Useni was a fine soldier, astute leader, and a people-oriented politician. Fondly called “Merry Jerryman” for his affable and jovial character, he was a kindhearted patriot who worked tirelessly for peace and nation-building.
“His contributions to Nigeria as Minister of Transport, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and a Senator representing Plateau State are enduring legacies that cannot be forgotten.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the military he served with distinction, and the people of Plateau State. May his patriotic soul rest in peace, and may his loved ones find strength and comfort during this difficult time.”
