The Kwara State Police Command on Thursday said that it has commenced investigations to ascertain the truth in the allegation that one of its officers shot and killed a student at the state capital Ilorin.
NPO Reports that an officer at a checkpoint had fired at a passenger in a tricycle hitting the student in the hand.
He was said to have been rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital where he however died. Eye witnesses at the scene of the shooting were said to have told people how policemen fired a shot when the driver of the tricycle did not stop.
Speaking with the NPO Reports on the matter on telephone on Thursday, Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Adetoun, said investigations are ongoing to determine what exactly transpired leading to the death of the student.
“We are aware of the incident and I can tell you that the command has commenced investigations. I assure you that once we determine what happened, that will be made public,” the PPRO said
