Gbenga Ogunbote, the Head Coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), on Sunday in Ibadan said that the team was not comfortable with its current position on the league table.
Ogunbote spoke during the post-match news conference, after the team defeated the visiting Akwa United FC of Uyo 3-0 in a 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 24 fixture, held at Lekan Salami Sport Complex, Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Oluyole Warriors currently occupy the ninth position, with 34 points, after securing maximum three points against Akwa United.
Ogunbote said that his team had been getting it right gradually since the beginning of second half of the season, but securing good points in both home and away games would make the team look more comfortable on the league table.
“There can not be third round, we are not comfortable on the league table right now. The league is still wide open both on the top and at the bottom, and a team must get it right now to be up there on the league table.
“The only fear we are having now is fatigue, because we have to be on the road to Gombe for next game against Doma United on Wednesday, then rush down for another home game on Sunday.
“This is taking a great toll on the team, “he said.
Ogunbote said that new players signed by the 3SC at the end of first half of the season were gradually fusing into the team.
He appreciated the fans for standing by the team through thick and thin.
Also, Coach Umar Abdullahi of Akwa United, while commenting on the game, said that the his team planned and prepared to claim all three points of the game but football could not be predicted.
He said that the last home victory of Akwa United against Eyimba FC gave strong signal to 3SC and other teams to redouble their preparation while playing against the team.(NAN)
