The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday revealed that financiers of the unrest in Nigeria have been identified.
Egbetokun confirmed that some bank accounts have been blocked already while investigations are still ongoing to unravel more.
Egbetokun was speaking at a press conference to update journalists on the ongoing nationwide protests that have taken a new dimension.
The Police boss said that some of the sponsors are out of the country while some are within the country.
“There are two elements of an offence. The intention to commit the offence, there is the act of committing the crime. Mere intention is not enough to grant conviction in court. Both must happen to gain conviction in the court,” he said
Also speaking, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Kemi Namdap, confrmed that the NIS has many of the sponsors of civil unrest in Nigeria being watch-listed.
She said that efforts are on to ensure that such people dont have access into the country adding that the system is active enough to ensure arrest should they make move to come into Nigeria.
“They have been watch-listed,” Nadap added.
