Former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to the defection of former Kano state governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
NPO Reported that Kwankwaso had on Monday defected to the ADC hours after his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The event held at the ancient city of Kano had the 2023 Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in attendance.
Kwankwaso’s defection and Obi’s presence at the event had sent the crowd of supporters at the venue chanting the name of the duo in what appeared to be a call for their emergence as the ADC’s flagbearer and running mate ahead of the 2027 Presidential election.
While Atiku had also been tipped for the presidential ticket with his media team earlier dismissing reports claiming his withdrawal from the race, the ex-Vice President however welcomed Kwankwaso’s defection to the ADC.
Atiku, in a brief post on his X handle, acknowledged the weight of impact Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya movement will have on the ADC’s attempt to oust the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party out of power.
“When men of conviction come together, power trembles. Welcome aboard,” The ex-Vice President wrote.
