Mojisola Meranda is the first female speaker to emerge as the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, marking a significant milestone in Lagos’ political landscape
Meranda who is representing Apapa Constituency I, replaced Mudashiru Obasa on Monday 13th January, 2024, who was impeached for gross misconduct and abuse of office by the legislative arm on Monday.
Born in August 1980 in Lagos, Nigeria, she acquired her primary education at Randle Primary School, in 1992.
She attended Anglican Girls Grammar School and later Ansar-Ud-Deen Secondary School, earning her West African Senior Certificate (WASC) in 1998. She obtained a Certificate in Software Development (Network Engineering) from NIIT.
She commenced her career as a personal assistant to the senior special assistant on information technology. She later became the personal assistant to the Director of the Land Information System Support Unit (LISSU) of the Surveyor General’s office.
She worked as the office manager of Cirrus Nigeria Limited in Lekki, Lagos, and was the managing director/CEO of Worthline International Services Limited, a company she founded.
Her public service experience includes roles as Senior Special Assistant on Intervention and Inter-Governmental Relations in Apapa Local Government, as well as Supervisor for Health in the same local government.
Meranda’s political involvement began with the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD), which later transformed into the Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and eventually the All Progressives Congress (APC).
