The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has explained reason behind his rejection of photo opportunities at events.
Egbetokun made the clarification during his address at an event held on Monday.
As captured in a video shared on X by the Nigerian Police Force spokesperson, the IGP apologized to those he had declined their request for personal picture with him.
He clarified that his decision was made out of caution.
The decision, according to him, became a precautionary measure he adopted in the wake of individuals weaponising random pictures taken with top officials for ulterior motive.
‘I would want to apologize to those distinguished individuals whose photo opportunities I have declined.
“This decision is not driven by pride but by caution at a time when photo opportunities granted at special occasions can be weaponized.” Egbetokun said.
The development is coming days after the Police Chief was accused of engagement in fraudulent activities following the arrest of a Nigerian socialite, Nzube Ikeji, who allegedly defrauded a Romanian woman in $2.5 million scam.
Ikeji reportedly pretended being a Dubai Prince to carry out the fraudulent activities.
Meanwhile, his picture with Egbetokun had raised speculations and claims of the IGP’s involvement in the act.
