The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has explained the reason behind the non-issuance of the Certificate of National Service (CNS) to Corps Member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye.
This was contained in a statement by the NYSC management via an X post, @officialnyscng, on Sunday.
NPO recalls that Rate had spoken up publicly particularly about the delay in the implementation of the new ₦77,000 allowance for corps members.
Therefore, speculations have prompted that the withdrawal was due to her speaking up about the perceived ills in the scheme.
NYSC described the claim as “entirely unfounded and false in its entirety,” clarifying that Uguamaye’s CNS was withheld for valid disciplinary reasons in line with the scheme’s regulations.
According to the management, Uguamaye with the state code number, LA/24B/8325, is among 131 corps members whose service year was extended for disciplinary.
However, in Rita’s case, the extension by two months was due to her failure to attend the April 2025 biometric clearance, which according to the management is a breach of its Bye-Laws.
“Contrary to false claims that she was denied a Certificate of National Service (CNS) due to critical remarks about the government, this assertion is entirely unfounded and false in its entirety.
“Rita is among the 131 Corps Members whose Certificates of National Service (CNS), were withheld for valid disciplinary reasons.
“Specifically, Rita’s service year has been extended by two months for failing to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance, a decision that aligns with the NYSC Bye-Laws. “
NYSC emphasized that such extensions are routine and not unique to her situation, noting that the principle of equal treatment was only applied in her case.
“It is important to note that this extension is a standard procedure and not unique to her case, and the principle of equal treatment was only applied in this case.
“The NYSC Management thus urges the public to approach this matter with understanding, as extending service for non-compliance is a longstanding tradition within the NYSC and should not be politicized.
“The NYSC Scheme remains committed to discharging its mandate, inline with the dictates of the constitution.
Nigeria is Ours; Nigeria We Serve.”
