A female journalist based in Katsina state, Rukayat Aliyu Jibia, has sent a Save my soul message to Nigerians and in particular, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Allkhali, over her ordeals in the hands of the state command of the police.
The young woman, who claimed to be in hiding and sent out the video through TikTok account, said her life is in danger.
Jibia said that her problem with the police started after demanding through her social media account, why four girls were paraded before journalists over allegations of prostitution without being taken to court to first prove their innocence or otherwise.
She accused said that after seeing the video of the parade of the four girls, she made a tiktok video where she quoted relevant sections of the Nigerian constitution which makes it unlawful for the girls to be paraded.
However, Jibia said that the following day, she got a call from the palace of the Emir that she was wanted.
On her way to the palace of the Emir, Jibia said she was ambushed by policemen led by the state Public Relations Officer, Gambo Isa, who she said led the ambush and was removed from her car and pushed into the police vehicle and whisked to the Emir’s palace.
On getting to the Emirs Palace, she said the PPRO told the Emir that she has been the one sabotaging the works of the police.
She said the Emir thereafter said she should be remanded after being arraigned. However she narrated that her lawyer came in good time to ensure her bail after which she was asked to report the following day.
Jibia said her life is not safe as the command of the police appear to be determined to hurt her.
She accused the policemen who allegedly ambushed her of causing her injuries in the process of forcing her from her car.
It could not be ascertained at press time if her plea to the Inspector General of Police had come across her case. NPO Reports was still making efforts to speak with the PPRO Katsina as at the time of filing this report.
