Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has claimed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, is one of the those who kept him alive.
Obasanjo made the claim while speaking at thr book launch by former IGP Sunday Oyedero (Rtd).
Addressing the guests at the event which also had Disu in attendance, Obasanjo specially acknowledged Disu over his service to him while he was under house arrest.
“Current IGP, I have to, in a special way acknowledge you because you are one of those who kept me alive when I was under house arrest.” Obasanjo said.
Recall that Obasanjo was in 1995 arrested by the late Gen. Sani Abacha.
He was initially place under house arrest before being transferred to incommunicado military custody and subsequently Yola Prison where he stayed until 1998.
Obasanjo was granted amnesty and released after the death of Abacha.
While the actual role of Disu during Obasanjo’s house arrest is quite unclear, the ex-President’s commendation of the IGP had again drawn public attention to the police boss.
NPO Reported that his appointment by President Bola Tinubu was widely welcomed by Nigerians who considered him a competent senior police officer.
