Reactions Trail Tinubu’s Visit to Jos Victims
- Safiu Kehinde
Millions of Nigerians are reflecting on the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Jos on Thursday to commiserate with victims and families of those who were killed in the Sunday killings in the Plateau state capital, Jos.
In particular, many who watched and heard the President told those gathered at the airport to listen to the President said they were awed by the statement by the President reminding the victims that there was no light at the airport and he must fly out of Jos in just ten minutes.
“You have no light at the airport, and I have to fly back in the next ten minutes.” Tinubu had said in the opening of his address at the Haiapang Airport where the victims and state government officials had awaited his arrival.
Though his visit was brief, the President statement however appeared to be such that will create lasting impression in the mind of many about his administration as his reference to the power outage at the airport, considering the electricity challenge most Nigerians have facing over the past weeks, sparked outrage from netizens.
“Baba said dem no get light for dem state.. so shior to them.,, he no fit spend more than 10 minutes… Same man that promised to fix electricity by all means necessary. E don already go off grid for Aso Rock..Wetin dis man go take campaign like dix?”mastertg552
“PBAT was the one who promised electricity and if there is non who is to blame? Are the dehumanised people of Plateau State responsible for providing electricity? Where is his minister of power? No, Mr President.”@YakubuTaddy
“President even affirmed that there is no light, at the Airport for that matter, wow!”@Tope Odeniran
“And the people who lost their loved ones are clapping for a monumental failure! Sometimes you don’t need to pity for Nigerians cos we’re in most cases the architect of our failures as a country!”@John Anyanwu
“Who did we offend in this country? It’s beyond shameless for a president to tell people mourning 30+ lives. lives he failed to protect that he has to leave in 10 minutes because there’s no light. He have forgotten that providing security and electricity is his job, not a favor.”@Imam Abdulhamid
“There’s nothing this man would do or say that would spark any reaction other than tweets, yelling and vexation. Afterwards, we’d carry on like nothing happened It’s a pattern and they know.”@Tobee_ST
“Even in mourning, no power at the airport. The irony hits hard. Nigerians deserve better than rushed condolences and excuses.”@Oladunniokolo
“Age has caught up with the brains of the president. These statements aren’t intentional, yet he doesn’t want to go and rest!”@KekeochaKelvin
“This experience will not repeat itself” “Amen” (someone in the crowd echoed) Either the people have learnt how to distinguish action-driven words and mere wishing. Or They are used to prayers than someone taking responsibility to do what they meant to do.”@Zionjon
“Tinubu arrived in Jos” and stopped at the gate Didn’t reached the scene where this massacre occurred. A very funny clown for a President.”@Call_me_Nayomee
