The Zamfara State House of Assembly has impeached the Speaker of the Assembly, RT. Hon. Biliyaminu Moriki
The Assembly in his resolution temporarily replaced the Speaker with Hon. Bashir Gummi.
The removal of the former Speaker according to the lawmakers was hinged on the resurgence of insecurity as bandits rampantly attacked communities across the state unchecked.
18 of the 24 members was said to have endorsed the impeachment of Moriki during an emergency meeting on Thursday night.
The impeached speaker was said to be out of the state for some days before his removal.
Hon Shamsudeen Basko representing Talata Mafara told the new speaker that the issue of insecurity was one of the key issues to be given top priority which led to the impeachment of the former speaker.
“What are we doing in the assembly? We need to stand up and do something to defend our people because the armed bandits are invading our communities,” he stated.
