The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the public display of the personal particulars of candidates nominated by political parties for the 2027 General Elections.
The exercise commenced at the commission’s FCT Head Office and simultaneously across the six Area Council offices, giving members of the public the opportunity to scrutinise the credentials and other documents submitted by candidates seeking elective positions.
Speaking during the exercise on behalf of the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye, said the publication of candidates’ particulars is a statutory requirement under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026.
She explained that the law mandates INEC to display the personal particulars, affidavits and other relevant documents of candidates in the constituencies where they intend to contest elections.
According to Oladunjoye, the display covers presidential candidates as well as National Assembly candidates contesting elections in the FCT, adding that the exercise is taking place simultaneously across all six Area Council offices to ensure easy public access.
According to her, the exercise is a key aspect of the electoral process, noting that it promotes transparency, accountability and public confidence in elections.
Oladunjoye urged citizens, political parties, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to take advantage of the exercise by carefully examining the information displayed.
She also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to implementing its timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Elections in strict compliance with the law.
“The Commission is on course with its preparations for the 2027 General Elections and will continue to carry out every stage of the electoral process in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, 2026, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines,” she said.
INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible and transparent elections, while calling on stakeholders to continue supporting the commission in ensuring a successful electoral process.
