The legendary old tortoise at the palace of Alaafin of Oyo’s palace has died at the age of 420 years.
The tortoise, popularly known as Baba which in English means father, reportedly passed away on Thursday after a brief illness.
Baba had since been buried with tributes flowing in honour of the late reptile.
The tortoise had over the years been one of the points of attention to visitors who often pay homage to it.
Baba lived to see four centuries and 20 years, witnessing several transitions of monarchs.
It was considered one of the sacred being in the palace,
