A Lagos Nursery school teacher identified as Stella Nwadigo has sparked outrage from netizens over the maltreatment of a 3-year-old toddler.
As captured in a now viral video posted on X on Wednesday, the teacher of Christ-Mitots School, Ikorodu, was seen physically assaulting the young pupil identified as Abayomi Micheal.
The toddler who appeared to be struggling with writing numerical figures was subjected to rounds of slaps by Nwadigo at every slight mistake.
This had attracted series of reactions from netizens who condemned the brutal act with some calling for the intervention of the Lagos Sate Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (LSDVA).
Leading the pack was social media personality, Deborah Olaki, popularly known as Mummy Zee.
“Because we want student to learn as fast as possible doesn’t mean we should expose them to physical abuse , i couldn’t even watch this video , as someone who advocates for education I find this devastating, why would a child who is at an education facility be exposed to such treatment . There are several means to make a child learn , every child doesn’t have the same learning ability.” @Ruxee_xo wrote.
“Just in case you’re yet to see this, @Lagosdsva , please for heaven’s sake, find this lady and let justice be done and be seen to have been done. 🙏🏾 This is 2024/2025.
This was hard to watch‼️” @Olalekanakogun commented.
“This is not good. Children like this need patience and grace from their teachers. This little boy doesn’t deserve this treatment, he’s too small for this. Teachers should be tested and evaluated before they’re allowed to teach but in Nigeria, any jobless person can become a teacher not necessarily having the quality to become one. The foundation is very important. We have work to do as a people.” @TaddyJerry
“Teachers are meant to nurture, not traumatize. This isn’t just a one-off incident; it’s a deeper issue when educators become the source of fear instead of inspiration. A child subjected to this abuse may never trust learning or school again. The question we need to ask: How many more kids are suffering in silence, with no one to speak for them? We must hold educators accountable—this isn’t discipline, it’s cruelty. When will we demand real change?” @Mazimum_
However, some netizens slammed the recorder of the incident for failing to intervene.
“And the person filming without intervening is on the same level as this lady who is mistreating this child.”@Echosocietal wrote.
“Who was recording ? Why not stop the act immediately after getting the evidence ?” @Omotayo Olokede
