The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has demanded the immediate release of missing Abuja-based lawyer, Eunice Ameh, urging security agencies to intensify search efforts and ensure her safe return.
NBA President, Afam Osigwe, made the demand on Saturday in a statement reacting to the disappearance of the young lawyer.
NPO recalls that, Ameh went missing on Wednesday evening after closing from work in Abuja.
She was last seen at about 5:40 p.m. on May 6, 2026, at Lake Chad Crescent in Maitama, before heading toward the Life Camp axis, after which contact was lost.
The NBA said the case has heightened concern within the legal profession, describing the disappearance of a serving young lawyer as alarming and unacceptable.
“When a young lawyer goes missing, the pain is not distant to the Nigerian Bar Association, it is personal,” Osigwe said.
He said the NBA remains united in demanding urgent action, stressing that missing person cases create distress for families, colleagues, and the wider legal community.
The association called on the Inspector General of Police to deploy all tactical and intelligence resources to locate Ameh and secure her release, while ensuring those responsible are identified and prosecuted.
“We therefore call on the Inspector General of Police to urgently deploy all necessary tactical and intelligence resources toward securing Eunice’s safe release,” the statement read.
Osigwe warned that time is critical in missing person investigations, noting that delays reduce the chances of a safe outcome.
The NBA reaffirmed its support for Ameh’s family, friends, and colleagues, describing the situation as deeply distressing.
It also urged the public with credible information to assist security agencies in locating the missing lawyer.
