Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, narrowly escaped being attacked by protesting students on Wednesday at the state’s capital city, Abeokuta.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade
According to the statement, the Deputy Governors convoy came under attack by the protesting students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic while on its way to 35 Artillery Brigade Alabama, Abeokuta, Ogun State to represent the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, at the reception marking the year 2025, Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebrations.
The students, reportedly armed with Sticks and other dangerous projectiles, had barricaded the road with all efforts to allow the convoy pass proving abortive.
In sudden twist of event, the students charged towards the convoy immediately they realized it was the Deputy Governor.
They became even more restive as they rushed to attack her convoy, despite heavy presence of security operatives as well as other police officers.
The Convoys were forced to make an immediate detour to her lodge for the protesting students to pass peacefully before the Deputy Governor left for the function she was slated to attend.
While vehicular movement was obstructed, the incident also resulted to the damage of some of her security vehicle with some of the security operatives sustaining injuries.
Prior to the protest which began on Monday, the Polytechnic’s management had declared the closure of the school over the student’s agitation against alleged increase in tuition fees and the delay in National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization for Higher National Diploma graduates.
The students are also protesting over the school management’s decision to verify their ND results from their former schools.
