An aide to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Olalekan Oyeyemi popularly called Emir Ajagungbade, has been shot dead in Osun State.
Ajagungbade is believed to be a murder suspect who was once declared wanted by the police.
His death on Sunday in Ile Ife was said to have happened after a meeting he held with some officials and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the ancient city.
The state’s commissioner for transport was said to have been attendance at the meeting.
According to reports, Ajagungbade, who was suspected to be cultist and was alleged being responsible of several cult-related killings, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Sunday amid a dispute over the leadership of a motor park in the state.
The aide was allegedly seeking take over the leadership of the park, currently headed by Wakili Nurudeen, popularly known as Alowonle, a development that reportedly sparked tension between the two groups.
Sources said Oyeyemi attended a meeting at Mayfair Motor Park with members of his group as part of efforts to resolve the dispute.
The meeting would be intruded by masked gunmen who stormed the venue and shot Ajagungbade in the head.
An eyewitness said the incident triggered panic as members of both the Alowonle and Emir groups reportedly fled the scene.
The source added that a vehicle carrying some members of Ajagungbade’s group was involved in an accident near Campus Gate while they were attempting to escape.
Following the incident, tension heightened at Oyeyemi’s base in the Asoje area of Osogbo, with his associates said to be agitated over his killing.
