A United States’ Senator, Mark Kelly, has faulted President Donald Trump’s mass deportation policy, labeling it as an act of intimidation and ripping communities apart.
The Democrat lawmaker representing Arizona stated this on Sunday on Daily Letter’s Meet the Press programme.
Kelly said the policy was a bad idea, stressing that it is an act of intimidating a big population of people.
He also condemned the deportation of Colombian migrants using military airplane which costs a lot more money than putting them on a chartered airline flight.
“For number of reasons, it seems to be intimidation of a big population of people.
“It’s going down the road of mass deportation which he said he will do which will rip communities apart. It’s a really bad idea trying to send folks back to Colombia which we routinely do.
“But sending them on a military airplane which costs a lot more money than putting them on a chartered airline flight which we’ve done for decades. It’s all about scaring and intimidating people.” He said.
Speaking on tariff increment on Canada and Mexico, Kelly warned that the policy will hurt American families as cost of food and other essentials will skyrocket.
“We are talking about two different things here. Border Security is important. I represent Arizona. We are a border state. There are things we can do to strengthen the border. We’ve demonstrated that Democrats and Republicans can come up together to come up with real policy solutions.
“But the President has proposed here rising tariffs on Canada and Mexico. It’s just gonna do one thing. You say it may raise prices? It will raise prices for Americans consumers.
“We saw this in his first administration. Here in Arizona, we wound up in a trade war over certain things with China for cotton producers and pecan farmers.
“They wound up. It really hurt their businesses. But beyond this, it’s going to hurt American families.
“They are going to see prices go up for food, for energy, for electronics, and autos. This is not the way to handle this,” the lawmaker said.
