Ogun state government has slammed six months suspension on Olorile of Orile-Ifo, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, over assault on community chief, Arinola Abraham.
This is as the state Police Command invited the monarch for interrogation over the incident.
NPO reported that Oba Ogunjobi was in a now viral video seen publicly humiliating and assaulting Chief Arinola over alleged betrayal.
This had sparked outrage from netizens who called for his arrest.
As contained in a statement issued by the state government on Tuesday, the monarch was invited by the Ogun Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs interrogation.
Following his invitation, the Commission suspended Oba Ogunjobi, stripping him of the paraphernalia of the stool.
The statement read; “In a bid to ensuring dignity of persons and for the protection of sanctity of our revered traditional institution, the Ogun State Government led by Prince Dapo Abiodun, has placed Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo on six months suspension for his uncivil conduct not befitting the status of an Oba.
“The decision was reached after the Kabiyesi and his victim were invited by the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Govt and Chieftaincy Affairs for interrogation.
“This became imperative as a result of the reckless utterances and public misconduct of the Kabiyesi as it was evident in the social media and being bandied in the larger public space.
“After the investigation conducted on the matter, the Kabiyesi has been suspended and stripped of the paraphernalia of the stool of Olorile-Ifo pending the determination of his culpability or otherwise on the allegation.
“The foregoing decision was reached by the Ministry in conjunction with the Egba Traditional Council in accordance with Section 52(1) of the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021.”
NPO reported that the Ogun Police Command has also invited the monarch for probing following directive from the Force headquarters.
The Force in a post shared on X dismissed Ogunjobi’s claim that he controls the Police.
“The Monarch has been invited to the State Police Command today for interrogation. It is important to note that no individual holds authority over the Nigeria Police Force. An investigation is currently underway, and justice will be served.” The post read.
