Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has replaced late Deputy Chief Whip, Adewunmi Onanuga, with Rep Isiaka Ibrahim (APC Ogun ).
Abbas announced Isiaka’s appointment as the new deputy chief whip during the plenary on Tuesday in Abuja.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Lower Chamber’s spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi.
According to the statement, the new deputy chief whip replaces Onanuga, former occupier of the office who died on the 15th of January.
The speaker explained that the appointment was made after consultations with relevant stakeholders and the APC South-West caucus.
“Following consultations with the APC Caucus and other stakeholders from the Southwest, the Leadership of the House has received and accepted the recommendation of Honourable Isiaka Ibrahim to serve as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House” Abass stated.
As profiled in the statement, the new deputy chief whip, Ibrahim Isiaka, represents Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency in Ogun.
He is a ranking member since his election in 2015 and has held several key positions, including Chairman of the Committee on Ecological Funds, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Governmental Affairs, and has chaired numerous Ad Hoc Committees of the House
The statement read in part; “The House of Representatives has named Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Ayokunle Isiaka (APC, Ogun) as the new Deputy Chief Whip of the Green Chamber.
“With extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, Rt. Hon. Isiaka is expected to play a pivotal role as part of the House Leadership in ensuring legislative discipline and order during parliamentary proceedings.”
