The Independent Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria has appointed Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and spokeperson to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Malam Garba Shehu, amongst others to its standing committees.
This was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the IPI Secretary, Ahmed Shekarau.
Also making the list alongside 25 other appointees are former President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Mrs. Funke Egbemode; former Managing Director of Champion Newspapers, Mr Emma Agu; and former Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Mr Gbemiga Ogunleye.
According to the statement, the appointments are aimed at promoting press freedom and responsible journalism in Nigeria.
The committees under which the prominent media personalities were appointed to include Programming, Advocacy and Membership.
The statement read in part; “The International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria has announced the appointment of prominent media personalities to its standing committees, aimed at promoting press freedom and responsible journalism in Nigeria.
“The committees include Fundraising, Programming, Advocacy, and Membership, each comprising seasoned industry professionals.
“Notable appointees include Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris; Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu; former President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Mrs. Funke Egbemode; former Managing Director of Champion Newspapers, Mr Emma Agu; and former Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Mr Gbemiga Ogunleye.”
