The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Executive Council (NEC) has affirmed the reinstatement of Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary
This was made known in a statement issued by the party Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, shortly after NEC meeting on Monday.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, Damagum that the party members and stakeholders had the party collectively agreed on Anyanwu’s reinstatement as the party’s National Secretary.
“We just rose from our 100th NEC meeting. It was a one-agenda meeting to discuss the outcome of our interaction with INEC as regards the national secretary,
“We all agreed that senator Anyanwu will continue to act as national secretary.” Damagum said.
He further disclosed that the next NEC meeting is scheduled for July 23, where members will finalise discussions on the party’s convention.
In an effort to avoid another rejection by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the acting national chairman said he and Anyanwu would jointly issue a letter informing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the planned NEC meeting scheduled for next month.
As against claim that the meeting, held hours after a mild drama at the party’s national secretariat, was a mere extension of the caucus meeting, Damagum maintained that it is the party’s 100th NEC meeting which was agreed upon after consultations wit stakeholders of the party.
While noting that the party knows how to resolve its crisis, Damagum said the meeting was attending by all the PDP governors in the country which further affirmed the meeting being held by NEC.
“The beauty of the Peoples Democratic Party is that it is the only party in this country that knows the mechanism to solve its own problem, rancour-free,
“All our governors attended the meeting. All members of NWC were on the same page. You will not be seeing all these press releases and counter-press releases.” He said.
