Human right activist, Omoyele Sowore, has threatened massive shutdown of Abuja over the remand of social media critic, Chidiebere Mark, popularly known as Justice Crack.
NPO earlier Reported that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had ordered Chidiebere’s remand following his arraignment by the Department of State Service (DSS).
The social media critic was arraigned by the DSS for alleged false claim against the military.
He was arrested by the Nigerian Army following the circulation of a video of his interview with group of soldiers who alleged being poorly fed.
While the soldiers in the video were also arrested, the military handed Chidiebere to the DSS for prosecution.
Reacting to his remand on Monday, Sowore faulted the court’s ruling as he threaten mass protest at the capital if the verdict is not readdressed before Wednesday.
“If by Wednesday and anything is not properly done, we will shut down this Abuja and the Federation on behalf of Justice Crack. It is not about Justice Crack alone.
“It is about the fact that these people have been taking us for granted.” He said.
Sowore alleged the spread of impunity with the force and security agencies, alleging that the DSS’ arraignment of Chidiebere was to justify his abduction by the military.
“And now they are passing us around their circle of impunity. Army will abduct you; they will take you to DSS and DSS will bring you to court.
“The reason the DSS decided to come to court is that they don’t want him to file for his fundamental human right.
“The moment you are tried, it is taken that they have done the appropriate thing. That is what they did to Nnamdi Kanu, abducted him.
“Normally when you are doing extraordinary rendition, you can’t even try somebody.
“But this is to justify the illegality of the abduction by the military.: He said.
The Sahara Reporters publisher charged his followers and other activists to mobilise ahead of Wednesday.
Meanwhile, he expressed his displeasure with the ongoing processing for Chidiebere’s bail application, stressing that the social media critic committed no offence.
“I will encourage all of you to mobilise massively for Wednesday. If we come to the Ministry on Wednesday and the minister is still talking rubbish, we will just take it from there.
“But we also know that lawyers are making effort to fight for bail. I don’t like the idea of fighting for bail when somebody has not committed an offence because they also use that to prolong the detention of person.
“He has not committed a crime and I’m disappointed.” He said.
Sowore further called for the public of listing of judges ordering remand of suspects in custody while faulting the rejection of no-case submission by Justice Joyce Abdumalik. ”
This is part of what we must do in this country, all these judges in the Federal High Court who accept to send Nigerians to the guillotine at the slightest opportunity, we must start listing them and letting the world know that we don’t need judges like that in the justice system.
“I was in court today and I saw what Justice Abdulmalik did and was appalled by it.
“The summary way he just dismissed a lawyer who was applying for bail, saying that oh you have to file for bail a certain way.” He added.
