The Nigeria’s D’Tigresses, have advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Abidjan after trashing Cameroon 83-47 to keep their title defense campaign alive.
D’Tigress extended their unbeaten run in Africa to 27, dating back to 2015, while moving them closer to a record fifth title in a row. Only Senegal have achieved Nigeria’s current feat of four.
The game at Palais des Sports de Treichville, late Wednesday night, saw Jessica Thomas and Maria Ewodo got the Indomitable Lionesses off to a 4-0 start with their hot hands.
However, that was the only dominance they would enjoy once reigning MVP Amy Okonkwo got the defending champions on the board with a free throw.
With Elizabeth Balogun jump shot, Rena Wakama’s side took the lead at 5-4, going on an 8-0 run in the last 2:40 to lead 21-9.
The second quarter saw Cameroon adjusted on both ends of the floor to hold Nigeria at 20-20 points.
However, the first-quarter slump saw them trailing 41-29 at halftime.
A 25-2 run in the third quarter further ditched and sealed the fate of the 2021 bronze medalists.
D’Tigress would go ahead to put an icing on the cake with a narrow 17-16 points win the final quarter to seal a 83-47 points victory.
Nigeria will face Senegal in the first semifinal game on Saturday.

After the game, Ezinne Kalu, the team’s guard noted that the team played the “Nigerian basketball”.
Brazil, Argentina, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Colombia will represent the Americas in the World Cup Qualifiers.
Tickets for the World Cup Qualifying Tournaments went to the following Asian and Oceania teams: Japan, China, Korea, the Philippines, New Zealand, and Australia.
The European representatives are the 2026 World Cup hosts, Germany; the Czech Republic; Hungary; Belgium; France; Italy; Spain; and Turkey.
