The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Super Eagles striker, Michael Eneramo.
Eneramo reportedly died on Friday morning after collapsing during a friendly match in Kaduna.
According to reports, the 40-year-old completed the first half before slumping five minutes into the second half at Ungwan Yelwa. Early indications suggest he may have suffered cardiac arrest.
Reacting to the tragedy, NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi said the federation was devastated by the news.
He described Eneramo as a dedicated patriot who represented Nigeria with pride and passion throughout his career.
Sanusi also said the NFF was already in contact with relevant authorities and the player’s family to understand the full circumstances surrounding the incident and provide support.
He added that the tragedy highlights the importance of regular medical screening for footballers at every level of the game.
Born in Kaduna on November 26, 1985, Michael Eneramo earned 10 caps for Nigeria after turning down an opportunity to represent Tunisia internationally.
He made his Super Eagles debut against Jamaica in London in 2009 and scored his first international goal later that year in a 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland.
Eneramo was also part of Nigeria’s 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, featuring in matches against Kenya and Tunisia.
At club level, Eneramo enjoyed success with Espérance Sportive de Tunis, where he became a fan favourite and earned the nickname “Al Dababa.” He also played in Turkey for top clubs including Beşiktaş J.K. and İstanbul Başakşehir F.K.
