President Tinubu has conferred national honour on Nigerian female basketball team, D’Tigress, over their triumph at the just concluded 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournament.
NPO earlier Reported the arrival of the team from Cote D’Ivoire where they clinched a fifth consecutive AfroBasket title following their defeat of Mali at the final on Sunday.
The victory had seen Nigerians anticipating for Tinubu’s extension of the heros welcome given to the D’Tigress football counterpart, Super Falcons, who had last week returned to Nigeria with their 10th Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
In similar version, the President hosted the team at a grand reception where he conferred the national honour of the Order of the Niger (OON) on both the D’Tigress players and the technical team.
Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, further rewarded each player of the D’Tigress team with $100,000 and a new apartment in appreciation for their success.
The technical team on the other hand were awarded $50,000 in recognition of their accomplishment.
