The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the People Democratic Party (PDP) and the David Mark-led African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction have jointly agreed to field a single presidential candidate for thr 2027 General Elections.
Both factions came to the agreement at the ongoing national summit of oposition political leaders in Ibadan, Oyo state.
Turaki announced the decision while addressing the opposition leaders and their members.
As contained in a communique presented by the factional PDP leader, both parties expressed readiness to work together collectively agree on who to field as their flagbearer.
“Despite the onslaught of thr ruling party, the APC, to ensure that President Bola Tinubu emerges as the sole Presidential candidate in 2027, we shall field candidate and contest in the 2027 Presidential and other elections.
“That we shall work towards fielding one presidential candidate in the 2027 election which shall be agreed and supported by all participating opposition parties to rescue our nation and our longsuffering masses.” Turaki read.
Meanwhile, the opposition political leaders collectively demanded the removal of Prof. Joash Amupitan as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
They accused Amupitan of bias and open partisanship, warning that his conduct of the 2027 election will plunge the country into crisis.
“That INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, having shown bias and open partisanship in favour of the ruling APC should not conduct the 2027 General Election as Nigerians across board have lost confidence in him and his capacity to guarantee the required neutrality to deliver the free, fair, transparent, and credible election.
“His continued stay in office is vexatious and capable of triggering widespread crisis in our nation.” Turaki read.
