Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, the naval officer who recently clashed with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has reportedly escpaed an assassination attempt on Sunday evening.
According to military sources quoted by Vanguard, Yerima was allegedly trailed by unidentified men dressed in black and riding in two unmarked Hilux vans without number plates around 6:30pm.
The vehicles were alleged to have followed him from the NIPCO Filling Station along the Line Expressway down to Gado Nasco Way.
Following his suspicion of being trailed, Yerima reportedly executed a “strategic maneuver,” successfully evading the suspected assailants.
The source, according to the Vanguard, added that the matter is under investigation and is receiving “the seriousness it deserves,” noting that further details are being withheld so as not to compromise the process.
Recall that Yerima had last week engaged in a tense confrontation with Wike over a disputed land site in Gaduwa District.
The FCT Minister had led official of the FCT Administration to the land claimed to be owned by former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo.
However, Yerima and his team denied Wike access to the land, leading to the fierce face-off captured in a viral video.
A visibly angry Wike had verbally assaulted Yerima, calling him a fool.
This had sparked widespread reactions and prompted intervention from the Presidency, which subsequently halted the demolition exercise at the site.
