The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has reaffirmed his leadership of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC).
The faction made the reaffirmation during its NEC meeting held on Friday in Abuja.
Following the conclusion of the meeting the factional NEC of the Labour Party, in a communique jointly signed by Abure and the party’s National Secretary, Umar Ibrahim, resolved to review the 2024 National Convention of the Party held in Nnewi, Anambra State.
It recalled that the convention had been met with controversies which largely contributed to the current leadership crisis with the party.
The Abure faction however cited the Supreme Court’s ruling which, according to the statement, proclaimed that issues of leadership of a political party are an internal affair of the party for which the courts have no business.
To that regards the party reaffirmed those elected as National officers of the Party at the Anambra National Convention as its recognised leaders.
The elected national officers, as highlighted in the statement include Julius Abure- National Chairman, Clement Ojukwu-Deputy National Chairman, Dr, Ayo Olorunffemi- Deputy National Chairman – Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, Esther Gulmu- Deputy National Chairman, and Ibrahim Idoko as National Vice Chairman (North Central).
Others include National Vice Chairman (South East) – Ceekay Igarra, National Vice Chairman (South South) – Anthony C. Ezeagwu, and National Secretary – Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim.
Meanwhile in attendance at the event are Datti Ahmed Baba, the running mate to the party’s 2023 Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, members of the National Working Committee, State Chairmen and Secretaries, Stakeholders of the Party, and other co-opted members of the National Executive Council provided by Article 13 (A) of the Party Constitution, including INEC monitors.
