The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru has resigned from his role with immediate effect.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday night by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Badaru tendered his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu yesterday.
The former Jigawa state governor reportedly said he was quitting on health grounds.
His resignation letter was accepted by Tinubu who expressed his gratitude to him for his services to the nation.
The President. according to Onanuga, will likely inform the Senate of Badaru’s successor later this week.
Prior to his appointment, Badaru served as a two-term governor of Jigawa state from 2015 to 2023.
The 63-year-old politician would be appointed as a minister on August 21, 2023.
His resignation comes amid President Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency, with plans to elaborate on its scope in due course.
